Here we are at the second half of 2013 and it was time for me to shoot Cheryl + Peter’s wedding! They initially had the Academy of Spherical Arts as their original venue for their reception but was recently shut down over the winter season. Although it couldn’t have worked out for the best, as they managed to move their reception to the Thompson Landry Gallery in the Distillery District. What a gorgeous reception venue! ….quite unique, I might add! From the beginning, they had a mission to be very different amongst the normal weddings…I would say mission accomplished! While most couples took their wedding photos inside the Distillery District itself, they decided to walk around the St. Lawrence Market area and incorporate that “sex and the city” feel that they were looking for. Moreover, I knew these two loved to travel around the world, and that’s exactly the theme for their evening was! They had amazing food stations all over the room with different themes that surely took you for a ride and tried the different tastes around the globe. This cocktail style reception was just awesome!
Although, little did I know that I had great challenges ahead of me with this low-light reception venue! With no white ceilings / walls to bounce off light, this truly was the hardest lighting situation I’ve ever faced! But I never back out of challenges….in fact, I embrace them! I had to be a little creative and found the best angles I could work with and really used those gallery lights & candle lights to my advantage! It turns out that I truly had an awesome “moody” ambiance to work with! I even managed to use some of the existing gallery paintings as backdrops to my shots! The end product — gorgeousness!!! LOVE IT! 🙂
Congratulations to you both and we wish you all the best!
